Donna Williams (Polly Walker): 1963 - 2017
It is with enormous sadness that Kent Autistic Trust learned of the passing of writer, artist, teacher and autism advocate Donna Williams who, on Saturday, April 22 - with her husband Chris by her side - finally lost her fight with breast cancer.
A professional artist, singer-songwriter and port, Donna's talents were and influence were far-reaching. Donna, whose real name was Polly Walker, was a qualified teacher with an honors degree in sociology and a degree in linguistics, but her passion lay in writing. Author of two international bestselling autobiographies, she published an incredible 10 books; four of which are widely used in autism education. Not only this, she also wrote an adapted screenplay for her first book “Nobody Nowhere”, which is currently under option to become a Hollywood film.
Importantly, Donna spoke across the globe to increase awareness surrounding autism; contributing to a better understanding of the condition.
Kent Autistic Trust would like to send its thoughts to Donna's family, including her devoted husband Chris.
This is truly a very sad loss for the wonderful world of autism.
